This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
