The Details Known About the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Shooting
A minimum of 16 people were killed and over 40 were wounded when attackers shot at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.
According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the death toll stands at 16, including one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were taken to hospital.
The victims have not yet been officially identified, but police believe their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Described as a father of five children, he served as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She described the moments before the shooting, saying they were standing when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was also killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with five in critical condition. Those hurt include two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
