The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.
“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.
The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.
“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
