Salah Issues Apology to Squad, Says Curtis Jones
The Liverpool midfielder has disclosed that the Egyptian forward expressed regret to the entire Liverpool squad in the wake of the controversy from his public comments.
What Happened
He was omitted from a European match after making accusations and stating his relationship with manager had deteriorated.
“Salah is an individual and he can say his own stuff,” Jones revealed. “He apologised to us and was like: ‘Should anyone feel slighted, I'm sorry.’”
The head coach has chosen not to comment publicly on whether he got an explanation from the player.
Moving Forward
The player stated that the squad's reaction was unchanged. “He was his usual self, he had a big smile on his face and everybody was exactly the same with him,” Jones added.
The midfielder also noted that a teammate fighting for a place is a positive trait. “It's clear there are certain ways you can handle situations,” he said. “However, if a player is content to just be on the bench, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
Positive Results
The team's performance have been impressive in the matches since the initial controversy. Jones believes the forward's comments were not designed to harm the team.
“If passion has boiled over, the source has been from a place of caring,” the midfielder stated. “It's behind us and we’re gelling well as a team, getting results and on a positive run.”
