Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
