Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
