Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are calling for that a individual who leaped a fence and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though legal records showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account contains recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-film version of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, earning two for best costume and production design.
