Wilfried Nancy declared he did not fear dismissal, maintaining, “We are really close to a turnaround,” even after edging perilously close to the exit with a heavy defeat by their arch-rivals.

A Second-Half Collapse Results in Old Firm Defeat

The home side were in front their oldest rivals at the break but a disastrous second period enabled the Gers to pull level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was brought in in December, has now presided over six defeats in his last eight matches.

“The board and I are united with the board,” said the manager.

Questioned about his own future, the 48-year-old said: “I don’t think about it. I think about discovering solutions to aid my players to excel on small moments.

Supporters' Anger Erupts

Celtic’s support voiced their fury – directed at the hierarchy – by protesting outside the stadium. The board would be most likely to re-appoint the interim manager, who had a fruitful temporary stint before Nancy was hired, should a change be made.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. However by saying that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. No. The message is we are on the cusp, really, really close to change the narrative.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy remains focused on the fact Celtic can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. Indeed, were it not for missed chances they might have been greater than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we didn't take a second goal,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I must remain balanced.

“The level we had at stages was of top quality. This is the reality. I wouldn't say that if it was not the case. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I mentioned it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I believe we are nearly there to things turning around. But for the moment: small things.”

“I saw many, many good things that we did, like today again. But now comes down to sustaining it. My outlook would be different if I didn't believe it. Therefore I firmly believe we’re going to be able to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Outlook

Danny Röhl played down talk of a serious challenge despite what felt like a landmark win. “Step by step, so we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The confidence in the team is immense.”
